A new strain of the coronavirus has been identified by scientists that originated in Europe in February. Since then, the new strain has migrated throughout the East and has spread to the U.S. This new strain appears to be more aggressive and more contagious than Covid-19. Those who were originally infected could be able to catch the new strain as well. Currently it is unclear if vaccines that are being tested for the current strain will be effective against the new one since the genetic sequences are different. Scientists and doctors are hoping the virus will not mutate the way the influenza virus does, requiring a new vaccine every year.
