Yoshitake Yokokura, head of the Japan Medical Association, believes that Japan should no longer host the rescheduled Olympics. “Unless an effective vaccine is developed, I expect hosting the Olympics will be difficult,” he commented. The coronavirus pandemic forced the event organizers to cancel normal July competitions and has postponed it for next year. While numerous countries and companies are working to develop and manufacture a vaccine, due to necessary trials we may not see one for over a year. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, director of the World Health Organization’s Eastern Mediterranean Office, has stated that there is no better time for the world to come together and for nations to collaborate on a vaccine or cure.
