Drug proves effective against virus as economic damage rises | AP News

Scientists have announced that antiviral medication remdesivir had the first effective treatment against the coronavirus in its trial run. The U.S. government has announced they are working to make the drug more readily available to patients. “What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus,” commented Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious-disease expert. Fauci believes that the drug could become the standard for care and should be administered as quickly as possible. Biotech company Gilead Sciences and the U.S. government have announced that a major study found that the use of remdesivir shortened the road to recovery by an average of four days.
