The Federal Communications Commission has made a decision that could harm our military’s goal in keeping troops safe from GPS hacking. They ignored the guidance put out by the Pentagon and civilian agencies and approved an application from Ligado Networks that could interfere with the communication systems used by special operations and combat troops. Congress still has the ultimate authority, and this author believes they should suspend the FCC’s actions in order to preserve the safety of our troops and country. The Defense Innovation Board of technology sector experts who are wanting to share the commercial spectrum space have also called the efforts by the Pentagon to secure this network for the military “fundamentally flawed.”
