Tina Hinchley runs a farm near Cambridge, Wisconsin where hundreds of milk cows reside. Normally 90% of the milk in demand that comes from the Hinchley farm is used to make cheese. However, the coronavirus has put a halt to this, and now 70% of that milk is no longer needed for cheese due to the schools and restaurants being closed down. All across the country there has been concern over the empty food shelves in the grocery stores, and farmers are discussing how it is not an issue of supply. Instead, the industry has yet to shift in where the food needs to be sent, such as the grocery store instead of schools and universities.
