Pat Tillman was never the same after watching the terror attack on the news on 9/11. In 2002, he gave up a $3.6 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals to enlist in the military alongside his brother. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment after giving up his football career. In 2004, Tillman was killed in Afghanistan after being shot during an ambush. Originally it was believed he was killed by the enemy, but a later investigation revealed he had been kit by friendly fire. A statue and memorial for him now stands outside the Cardinals’ stadium in Glendale.
