Officials in Germany have noted that the country with a minimal amount of deaths and infections could see a jump in the number of cases if they reopen businesses and schools too soon. Chancellor Angela Merkel has stated that they are still in the beginning stages of the coronavirus pandemic and they should not risk reopening the country too soon out of fear over the economy. Germany has now relaxed certain measures and is allowing small shops to reopen, despite Merkel’s warnings. “This interim result is fragile. We are on thin ice, one could even say on thinnest ice,” Merkel cautioned. Their death toll sits at 5,094 as of Thursday, and the number of infected cases remains low.
