By June, the Defense Department hopes to be testing over 60,000 service members for the coronavirus every day. While there is currently a testing kit shortage, as more kits are produced the military will begin testing essential troops and those who are at the highest risk–Those who are health care workers, in high end counter-terror units, and those in the nuclear triad. Air Force Gen. John Hyten, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has commented that the testing would help choose deployment units and bring in new recruits.
