Taiwan has been working to quickly assemble a team of warships to help monitor the Liaoning, a Chinese aircraft carrier patrolling near the West Pacific. Japan spotted the vessel heading through the Miyako Strait before turning toward the south. “We have conducted reconnaissance and monitoring over the sea and air space around Taiwan,” commented Taiwan’s ministry. The Liaoning is currently the only aircraft carrier in the western pacific after the USS Theodore Roosevelt had to dock in Guam due to an outbreak of the coronavirus onboard. Another U.S. ship, the USS Ronald Reagan, is currently docked in Yokosuka, Japan after crew members also tested positive for the virus.
