Staff Sgt. Adam Erickson was conducting parachute training at Edwards Air Force Base in 2019 where his canopy collapsed, causing him to sustain life-ending blunt force injuries. An investigation has revealed that the cause of this was Erickson overcontrolling his parachute on the jump. While he successfully deployed his chute, after passing 274 feet he braked for ten seconds, causing the canopy to collapse and lead him into a roll until he hit the ground. Another aspect revealed was that the wind speeds during the jump were accurately reported to the supervisors in their relation to the affect they would have on the smaller parachutes.
