The war against al-Shabaab militants in Somalia has been seeing a spike in the use of drone and air strikes these past few years. Currently, it is believed that the U.S. has carried out 42 strikes in Somalia these last six months, with a total of 235 strikes so far. Each year the Trump administration has seen a rise in these numbers. In 2019, there appeared to be just over one airstrike every week. Many people are divided on this form of attack, with some stating there is a higher chance of civilian casualties. Others, however, claim that using drones help keep American troops out of harms way, and that air strikes have continued to become more accurate.
