Those in the U.S. may want to be prepared for a meat shortage after the world’s largest producer of pork has closed one of their largest plants in the U.S. A coronavirus outbreak amongst the workers has caused the indefinite closing. During the release, Smithfield Foods announced that the U.S. should be prepared for a meat shortage following the closing of the plant. “The closure of this facility, combined with a growing list of other protein plants that have shuttered across our industry, is pushing our country perilously close to the edge in terms of our meat supply,” commented Chief Executive Officer Ken Sullivan. This also comes amidst the current struggle of getting food from the farm to the table due to sick workers and other processing plants closing down.
