The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced that they recommend that everyone should wear a mask when out in public. Now there is a major debate on whether these homemade masks actually prevent you from catching the virus, or at least reduce the spread. Two recent studies both examined this issue but came to different conclusions. One study found that surgical masks may help slow the spread, and the other concluded that neither surgical nor homemade masks help at all. Experts are now stating that these masks might help you avoid catching the virus, but that putting on a mask is near the bottom of the list when it comes to coronavirus health safety. Public health officials have announced that only the N95 masks are truly capable of filtering out the virus, while surgical and cloth masks are borderline useless. Whether you wear a mask or not, washing your hands, disinfecting surfaces in your home and car, and staying home are still the primary ways to avoid the virus.
