The Taliban have continued to show off their “elite” Red Unit on social media and other propaganda. The Red Unit acts as their form of special operations and leads many of the larger assaults and coordinated attacks. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has posted photos of the units on Twitter and shows a watermark from the group’s official media wing, El Emara Studio. The fighters in the pictures sported the Red Unit headband, shirts with the Taliban’s special operations logo, and flags with the wording. These members are tasked with “military training aimed at removing obstacles to Islamic sovereignty.”
