Pfizer says coronavirus drug could enter testing by fall | STAT News

A potential drug designed to treat COVID-19 may begin human trials in August or September. Pfizer made the announcement on Thursday with optimism, as this is three months sooner than expected. While the treatment is still months away from becoming available to patients, it is moving down the approval track at a much faster pace than normal. The company is also looking into the antibiotic azithromycin as a possible treatment. Mikael Dolsten, Pfizer’s chief scientific officer, has commented that their mission is to create “a vaccine that can protect our population and expel the virus from the soil of America and back to the empire of bats.”
