Defense Secretary Mark Esper has confirmed the resignation of the Acting Secretary of the Navy, Thomas Modly. “He resigned on his own accord, putting the Navy and the Sailors above self so that the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, and the Navy as an institution, can move forward,” said the official statement. Modly resigned less than 24 hours after Democratic members of Congress called for him to be fired after mishandling Capt. Brett Crozier and his letter asking for help for his sailors. He sent out one final memo before resigning, calling for readers to follow the mission. “You know what to do. Take the helm. It’s your ship now. Don’t ever, ever, ever give it up. And forever, Beat Army!”
