Veteran Affairs coronavirus cases top 3,000 nationwide, deaths near 150 | Military Times

Veterans Affairs officials announced the first VA death from the coronavirus in the middle of March. Since then the number of positive cases and related deaths have skyrocketed. As of Monday, there have been 144 confirmed deaths in the medical centers and over 3,000 positive cases. On March 30th, there was only less than 20 coronavirus related deaths. The New Orleans and Brooklyn VA medical centers are two of the hardest hit facilities. Up until recently all patients who had succumbed to the virus were over the age of 50, but now a patient in her 40s has passed away. Officials have also announced that any veteran experiencing a cough, fever, and shortness of breath should contact their local VA center to get tested and treatment.
