Editor’s Notes: Army tries to ‘find, fix, finish’ startups | National Defense

The Army Futures Command, based in Austin, works with startups and entrepreneurs in order to increase innovation and develop new ideas. The Capital Factory is one of these locations and has taken over several floors of a skyscraper since it was founded 11 years ago. A Special Forces officer, Tim Crane, commented that “The Army has, historically, had a very bad time innovating, or having a relationship with industry where we can work in a truly open, innovative environment and work out a problem instead of being overly prescriptive.” These small businesses often receive grants and then contracts to work with the Army and the defense industry.
