As of Monday, the Army has suspended the start of all basic training courses and the shipment of new recruits. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, commander of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, has announced that the suspension will last at least two weeks and will continue as long as necessary for everyone’s health and safety. Those currently in basic training will continue as normal, with social distancing measures in place. Basic training recruits who graduate will also be allowed to advance to AIT like normal. Currently there are around 100 confirmed coronavirus cases at the Army’s training base, and the suspension of training and receiving recruits will help prevent this number from rising.
