U.S. Special Operations Command has now authorized five Crisis Response Force companies to be disbanded. These elite units will be split up and integrated into other special operations companies. The CRF was created after the terrorist attack on 9/11 in order to be used as an immediate response to threats and take direct action. Some of the alleged reasons for disbanding units is to focus on the original SOCOM missions, and that the CRF wasn’t being utilized enough. The several hundred CRF personnel will be used to fill numerous positions in other units where SOCOM sees a need.
