Special Forces legend and Medal of Honor recipient Bennie Adkins hospitalized with COVID-19 | Task and Purpose

Bennie Adkins has tested positive for the coronavirus and is currently hospitalized due to respiratory failure. He was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2014 for his actions during the Vietnam War. During a fight against Vietnamese forces, Adkins held off the enemy while rescuing wounded soldiers. During the attack he killed between 135 and 175 enemy fighters while sustaining 18 wounds until a helicopter arrived. Initially Adkins was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross but received the Medal of Honor 48 years later. He retired from the Army in 1978 as a command sergeant major.
