Currently, 10 Amazon warehouses have positive coronavirus tests amongst the workers. Unions and employees have been pressuring for more shutdowns, but Amazon, however, has begun to hire more workers. A worker from a New York warehouse where the virus tested positive has stated that work continued while a sanitation group cleaned the warehouse. A warehouse in Spain and Italy also tested positive. When Amazon refused to close, the facility workers in Italy went on strike. Many workers have called the act of keeping all facilities open as hypocritical, when those with office jobs have been ordered to work from home. A spokesperson for Amazon recently commented that they have been taking the proper precautions when a positive case has risen, and that all sick workers are being cared for.
