Syria’s chemical arsenal: Obama’s failure, Trump’s mixed success – analysis | Eurasia Review

Syrian president Bashar Assad has a large supply of chemical weapons in the form of vehicles filled with chlorine gas and sarin nerve agents. President Obama signed an agreement in 2013 that was supposed to see Syria dispose of these weapons, with help from Russia. However, this arsenal of chemical weapons is still in use. Despite Obama signing a deal and claiming he was against the use of such weaponry, his stalemate action taken against them allowed Assad to grow his arsenal. This greatly varies from President Trump’s action against chemical weapons taken these last four years. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also commented in 2019 that the U.S. “will not allow these attacks to go unchallenged, nor will we tolerate those who choose to conceal these atrocities.”
