When Taliban militants attacked several locations in three districts of Balkh, Afghan security forces responded. The result left 25 militant fighters killed and another 33 wounded after numerous engagements. The security forces also had the support of Special Forces and the Air Force. One of the commanders of the groups, Mullah Hafiz, was among the dead, and two other commanders were wounded. 12 villages were also cleared by the security forces during the raids.
