The Kenya Defence Forces held an operation that resulted in the death of 12 terrorist militants. The special operations officers conducted the raid in Nginda, Lamu county and succeeded in taking out a local al-Shabaab leader in the process. The commander had been providing weapons and intelligence to the militants in the area hiding in the Boni Forest. One hope following the successful mission is that it will cause other terrorist groups taking shelter in the forest to be flushed out, as their major food source was just destroyed. During the raid one fighter was taken prisoner and a stash of weapons was confiscated, including over a thousand rounds of ammunition.
