A physician scientist in charge of a lab that studies viruses has shared what is going on in the U.S. and around the world with the lack of COVID-19 testing. First, while there are tests and trials currently in the works, no medication is currently available to cure or seriously treat any severe coronaviruses. Testing capabilities in the U.S. are extremely low, meaning we don’t know who all has the virus. The first problem arose when we only had one testing facility in the country that had to serve over 331 million people. Even when the CDC created more health labs, it still isn’t enough. Testing kit numbers have only just started to increase as the FDA is now allowing private and individual labs to create these kits.
