Iraqi anti-IS operations hindered by coalition base attacks | Al-Monitor

On March 10th, two Marines were killed during a mission with both U.S. and Iraqi forces in the Makhmour mountains while going against the Islamic State. Officials are debating if the tension and lessened collaboration between Iraq and the U.S. these past few months, due to the friction with Iran, has allowed the Islamic State to have a resurgence. A Counterterrorism Services officer has commented on the concern, stating that “the US continued and is continuing to give us valuable help with airstrikes as well as evidence collection and analysis.” He also noted that the U.S. has provided valuable technology, such as DNA testing and stronger communication equipment.
