MARSOC identifies marines killed in combat in Iraq | DVIDS

The Marine Forces Special Operations Command has released the names of the two Marines from the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion who were killed in action in Iraq. Both age 34, Gunnery Sgt. Diego D. Pongo was a critical skills operator and Capt. Moises A. Navas a special operations officer. They were accompanying Iraqi Security Forces during a mission against an ISIS stronghold located in the mountains where they received fatal injuries. “Both men epitomize what it means to be a Marine Raider. They were intelligent, courageous, and loyal. They were dedicated leaders, true professionals in their craft, and willing to go above and beyond for the mission and their team. They were not just leaders today; they were both on the path to be our organization’s leaders in the future,” commented Col. John Lynch.
