Maj. Jeffrey Wright has recounted a mission he and his team completed against the Islamic State – Khorisan (ISIS-K) in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. In April 2019, his AFSOC Air-Ground team engaged with a group of fighters who had created an installation on the side of a mountain. The enemy had set up fire positions to come from both the floor and ceiling, as well as all directions. Subterranean passages also connected numerous buildings and rooms, allowing fighters to move to areas Wright and his men had already cleared. During the assault, a combat controller was able to contact Spooky41, which quickly responded with fire from an AC-130U. Wright later commented that he had never seen a more accurate and responsive fire support when U.S. troops were in such close proximity with the terrorist fighters.
