The new scope used by the Marines known as the squad common optic will go on the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle and the M4. Trijicon will be paid $64 million to provide the optics that replace the previous model made by them. The scope is almost double the size of the previous one and has an adjustable magnification rate from one to eight times. Units can expect to begin the transition near the end of 2020, with full distribution and integration set for 2023. Lt. Col. Tim Hough, Systems Command’s program manager for infantry weapons, commented that the scope will provide better accuracy and lethality than the previous model.
