After the seven days of deescalated violence, the Taliban and the U.S. have signed a war-ending peace deal. There is a possibility for all U.S. troops to be withdrawn within the next 14 months. The only way for the peace to last, however, is for both sides to maintain their end of the deal. President Trump commented that he expects the deal to be successful in the end, and that he hopes to personally meet with the Taliban leaders in the near future. Both the President and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are cautiously optimistic however, preserving that the U.S. will strike back if the Taliban break their end of the deal.
