A recent memo to Gen. Gary Thomas has called for numerous reforms and attention to be brought to certain issues in the Marine Corps. Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger has called for immediate action pertaining to the removal of all Confederate-related items from Marine Corps installations and directives on a new proposal for maternity leave and gender integration. The debate over Confederate related items such as the flag has gone on for years and shows no sign of slowing. Some say the flag represents slavery, while others claim it is a part of history. Both the Navy and the Army currently have installations and ships named in honor of the Confederacy.
