Businesses in the doomsday and survival gear markets have seen a spike in consumer purchases. Recent scares, such as the Coronavirus and the Australian bushfires, have led to a rise in the purchase of gas masks and even the creation of underground bunkers. Survival gear company, Mira Safety, commented that their January sales in hazmat suits and respirators have already totaled more than their entire sales from 2019. Some companies have already sold out of their inventory as more Americans rush to buy survival gear and $20,000 bunkers.
