USAF Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin was a combat controller with the 26th Special Tactics Squadron when he was deployed to Afghanistan to support Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in 2018. A total of four soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb while in Andar, Ghazni Province. The Vanport Bridge that spans the Ohio River will be renamed on February 29th in honor of Elchin to “USAF Combat Controller Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin Memorial Bridge.” Airmen from his squadron and his commanding officer, Lt. Col. Gregory Walsh, will attend the ceremony. Sen. Elder Vogel Jr. and state Rep. Josh Kail who were instrumental in introducing the bill to rename the bridge are also expected to attend.
