Must Read

On February 8th, the 7th Special Forces Group was waiting for a helicopter in the Sherzad district of the Nangarhar province. While they waited, an individual wearing the Afghan Army uniform opened fire on the U.S. and Afghan troops with a M-249 light machine gun. One ANA soldier was killed alongside Sgt. 1st Class Antonio R. Rodriguez and Sgt. 1st Class Javier J. Gutierrez, with six U.S. and three ANA troops being wounded. Over the past several years insider attacks against U.S. troops has slowly declined, but Afghan security forces have been seeing a spike in attacks. The second half of 2019 saw 57 insider attacks against the ANA, and they have continued to be on the rise since 2018. U.S. forces in Afghanistan only reported one insider attack in 2019 and four in 2018, with the recent attack being the first for 2020.
