Global defense spending rose by 4% in 2019 compared to 2018. Spending is up all over the world, with Europe seeing a 4.2% increase, and both China and the U.S. having a rise of 6.6%. The rate of growth for defense spending in the U.S. has also continued to rise. The Military Balance stated the increase is due to unstable international relationships and the fight for modernization. No one wants to be left behind in the dust as new tech and equipment are being used for the first time. Mounting unease with Russia has also driven up spending for NATO countries.
