Liberals pull plug on decade-old plan to move elite Joint Task Force 2 unit out of Ottawa | National Post

Member of the Joint Task Force 2 and their families no longer have to speculate if or when they will be uprooted and sent to a new base. After more than a decade the federal Liberal government has decided to cancel their plans to relocate the unit from Ottawa to an area near the Canadian Forces Base Trenton. Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan announced the decision earlier this week despite the previous Conservative government having spent millions buying and prepping the land for relocation. In an emailed statement Sajjan said, “in the changing global security environment, we remain focused on making sure that the Canadian special forces are equipped to deal with these challenges.” No reason has been given for the cancellation, with officials only stating that the JTF2 will remain equipped with the skills and equipment needed to perform their duties.
