A multibillion-dollar U.S. spy satellite is being followed by two Russian satellites, adding attention to the ever-growing tension between the two countries. Gen. John “Jay” Raymond, commander of the Space Force, said that the Russian spacecraft has gotten within 100 miles of the satellite at times. “We view this behavior as unusual and disturbing. It has the potential to create a dangerous situation in space,” Raymond commented. This is the first time the U.S. military has announced a threat to a satellite from another country. Some worry that the next frontier could be used to unintentionally escalate hostilities and provide a new battleground with different forms of warfare.
