French commando operations and airstrikes against groups associated with the Islamic State and al-Qaeda have taken down 30 militants and destroyed numerous vehicles. The France-led Operation Barkhane has continued to grow in numbers and allies, and it has seen an increase in working with local partner forces in sub-Saharan Africa’s Sahel region. Two targeted airstrikes conducted by the commandos on February 6th and 7th utilized the firepower of a Reaper drone, a Mirage 2000 fighter jet patrol, a Tigre attack helicopter, and a Cougar transportation helicopter. Barkhane forces also operated in the Liptako where a dozen Islamic State affiliates were killed or captured.
