Canadian special forces troops back on the job in Iraq, says commander | CBC

The Iraqi Army has declared the all-clear to resume specialized military training, with Canada stepping up first to join them. With joint operations still at a standstill between the U.S. and Iraqi forces, the Canadian Special Forces Command has announced their troops are back at it. “The entire premise of our mission — to defeat Daesh — has not changed and Canadians should be aware of that,” commented Maj.-Gen. Peter Dawe. The command has stated that they are aware of the fragile political state due to the recent airstrike but will not let it stand in the way of tracking down ISIS with Iraqi security forces. Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan also announced that if Iraq formally asked foreign troops to leave the country that Canada would withdraw and respect their wishes.
