‘I’m not the same’: Hurdles remain for troops, veterans with TBI despite increase in awareness | Stars and Stripes

Over 60 U.S. military personnel have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury following the missile attack carried out by Iran on January 8th. President Trump originally reported that there were no injuries sustained, and then commented that the only issues seen were headaches. The Department of Defense has recorded that at least 414,000 service members have TBI, which is a major cause of disability and death. Numerous veteran organizations have called for President Trump to apologize following his remarks that he “has seen much worse” in regard to the TBIs that the troops have sustained. Those diagnosed with TBI have commented on their frequent and intense headaches, memory loss, inability to eat, and extreme sensitivity to light.
