As the coronavirus continues to spread and infect more citizens in Wuhan, cities throughout the country have begun to run out of face masks as the population rushes to obtain them. The big question, though, is will a face mask actually prevent you from catching the virus, or will it only provide you with a little peace of mind? While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not know how it spreads, medical staff have been informed to treat it as an airborne pathogen. Workers are wearing a N95 respirator that blocks around 95% of small particles. The average surgical mask that the everyday citizen is wearing, however, only provides meager protection.
