1st Reconnaissance Battalion, based in Camp Pendleton, has won the second annual award for physical fitness. Calculated off a unit’s combined average Physical Fitness Test and Combat Fitness Test, the Corps’ Superior Unit Physical Fitness Award goes to the highest unit. If a Marine fails or doesn’t take the PT tests, then his unit is disqualified. 1st Recon won with an average score of 551 out of a possible 600. This also includes beating Marine Raiders units, with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in Japan taking second and 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion in North Carolina coming in third.
