Airmen killed in Afghanistan crash identified | Air Force Times

The two airmen that were killed in the Afghanistan crash have been identified as: Lt. Col. Paul K. Voss, 46, of Yigo, Guam, assigned to Air Combat Command headquarters at Joint Base Langley-Eustis; and Capt. Ryan S. Phaneuf, 30, of Hudson, New Hampshire, assigned to the 37th Bomb Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Supporting the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram, Voss was on a voluntary deployment and the pilot of the E-11A.

Commissioned in November 2001 after graduating Officer Training School, Voss was an 11M mobility pilot, and some of his decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Entering active duty in June 2012, Phaneuf was an 11B bomber pilot who flew the B-1B Lancer, and his decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal.
