Royal Marines from Arbroath-based 45 Commando have to complete the mobility phase of the Cold Weather Warfare Course before they can move on to tactical training. Located in Norway in temperatures that reach -22 degrees Fahrenheit, mobility training involves the use of sleds, skis, and snowshoes. Carrying everything they need on their backs and pulling up to 40 pounds of gear on a sled, the Royal Marines make cross country marches that reach 20km a day that include skiing aspects. The 45 Commando units will join the Plymouth-based 47 Commando Raiding Group for the fighting and tactical section of the training following the mobility section completion.
