New cybersecurity standards that the Pentagon wants military contractors to follow could be released as soon as Friday, January 31st. Chief information security officer for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Katie Arrington, is the point person for the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). She announced on the 28th that the new requirements would be ready by the end of the month. A tiered cybersecurity framework, the CMMC grades companies on a scale of one to five. Arrington said the new standards will not be implemented overnight, and that assessors and auditors will need to be trained. She expects to have 1,500 companies certified by the end of 2021, and all new contracts will have requirements by fiscal year 2026.
