The Shaurya Chakra is being awarded to six soldiers from India as they fought off terrorists throughout different regions. Naib Subedar Narender Singh of Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) is receiving the award for successfully navigating his team through a minefield at night in order to intercept a band of terrorists moving across the LoC. Lt. Colonel Jyoti Lama of 11 Gorkha Rifles with Assam Rifles is receiving one for creating an intelligence network that led to the arrest of 14 militants, and it continues to bring in information. Martyr Naib Subedar Sombir of the Jat Regiment is being awarded for locating a likely escape route for engaged militants and taking down three of them after his teammate was wounded by grenades.
