Apple Watch Connected is an initiative that sees the Cupertino company partnering with major gym chains to bring Apple Watch-related technologies and benefits to members of those gyms. Apple has announced the initiative within the last week, according to CNBC. Apple is not requiring gyms to pay anything directly to participate. Orange Theory, YMCA, Basecamp Fitness and Crunch Fitness are the first gyms to partner. More are expected to be added to the program at a later date. While these gyms do not have to pay anything directly to participate, specific criteria is required in order to be a partner, which in turn could cause the gyms to incur expenses. As part of the partnership, the gyms are required to offer an app (iPhone and/or Watch) that tracks fitness progress, to accept mobile payments through Apple Pay and to offer rewards to members for achieving goals. The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, told investors, “there will be a day in the future that we look back and Apple’s greatest contribution will be to people’s health.”
