Marine Raiders led counterattack against al-Shabab militants at Manda Bay, Kenya | Marine Corps Times

A group of Marine Raiders were the first to respond to an attack by al-Shabab militants on a military base in Manda Bay, Kenya. The terror group associated with al-Qaida destroyed several aircraft and caused the deaths of a U.S. service member and two DoD contractors. Around a dozen troops from the 3rd Marine Raider Battalion led Kenyan soldiers in a firefight against the terrorist group that was estimated to have several dozen fighters. At least one Marine Raider was injured, but the severity of the injury has not been confirmed. Army Spc. Henry “Mitch” Mayfield Jr. has been identified as the soldier who was killed during the raid. The two DoD contractors who were killed have been identified as pilots and contractors from L3 Technologies, Dustin Harrison and Bruce Triplett.
