Recently conducted studies are showing that yoga can have some of the same positive effects on the brain as aerobic exercise. The studies used MRI and SPECT scans to measure differences in the brain of participants who regularly partook in yoga. Scientists said the scans show similar results to what you would see in someone who exercised in more traditional ways, such as an increase in the volume of the hippocampus. While the studies are considered exploratory, other results found included a healthier prefrontal cortex and larger amygdala.
